When your backyard chickens get on a roll, and you suddenly find you have a lot of extra eggs, you begin to think about how you are going to use these extra eggs. I am trying to become more creative, finding yummy ways to use this abundance of fresh eggs, so have put together an ultimate list of ways to use extra eggs.

Ways to Use Extra Eggs

Ways to Use Extra Eggs

Even though we are eating eggs on a daily basis as well as giving them away, we still have an abundance of eggs. There are many different things you can do when you have a large supply of eggs.

Did you know that eggs can be stored in a cool area for up to six months. This cool space can include a cool closet, root cellar, or even a shelf in a basement. Leave the eggs unwashed and place them in a single layer, large end up in an egg carton. Store until ready to use.

Here are some more great ideas of what to do with extra eggs.

Store them for Later

  • It is said that you can rub fresh eggs with mineral oil and store pointy side up in the pantry for up to 9 months.
  • Learn how to freeze eggs
  • Make egg noodles and freeze the extra
  • Water glass eggs
  • If you have a freeze dryer, you can freeze dry eggs
  • Dehydrate eggs
  • Store in cool area for up to six months
  • If you have stored up all you want, donate some to friends, family and others.
  • Make homemade pie crusts and freeze for later

Farm and Garden Use

  • Eggs are a good source of protein for animals including pigs, dogs, goats, sheep, calves, horses and even chickens.
  • The shells contain calcium which is great for chickens, though never give chickens whole eggs to eat. Crush the shells before feeding them back to your chickens.
  • Eggshells also make a great fertiliser. Crush them up and compost them or just throw them into the garden. Tomatoes love crushed up eggshells.
