This delicious smelling Orange Exfoliating Lip Scrub is a great way to care for your lips, especially during the cooler weather.
Exfoliating Orange Lip Scrub
A lip scrub is a great way to exfoliate the dead skin off your lips. This natural scrub can be easily made in a matter of minutes and is not meant to be used more than once a week. Also, be careful not to exfoliate too hard, as you can damage your lips, leaving them raw and red.
As always, remember to follow this exfoliation with hydration, using a good lip balm or ointment after rinsing off the scrub. This will help your lips stay soft.
Phototoxic Oils
As you may be aware, some citrus essential oils, such as cold-pressed grapefruit, lemon and lime are phototoxic. This means that if you use one of these oils on your skin and then go out into the sun, some pretty bad damage such as severe burning and blistering can occur. Sweet Orange Essential Oil is not one of these phototoxic oils. Even so, I prefer to use this lip scrub in the evening before bed.
Sweet Orange Essential Oil
This delicious smelly essential oil is commonly used in skincare products not only for its aroma, but also due to its antioxidant and antiseptic properties. It is effective in keeping your skin clean and clear of acne, reducing dark spots and blemishes, boosting circulation, promoting cell growth, while also serving as an anti-depressant and anti-anxiety tool.
Essential Oils
Essential oils are potent, and need to be diluted. As this scrub is being used on your lips, you will need to use essential oils that are gentle enough to be applied to your skin – and used in the correct quantities.
Make this Lip Scrub
To make this lip scrub, you will need:
- 6 x 3g jars
- 3 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 1-2 drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil
- â…› tsp orange mica powder
- 3 gram jars
Directions
Add all ingredients to a bowl.
Mix together well to make sure all the ingredients are combined.
Add the mixture to your jars, and screw on lid.
Store in the fridge for one to two weeks. As there are no preservatives, what you don’t use will need to be thrown out and another mixture will need to be made.
To Use
Scoop out a small, pea size amount of the scrub and very gently massage it over your lips while leaning over a sink. Rinse off thoroughly.
Hydrate lips with a good lip balm or ointment.
