DIY Glass and Mirror Cleaner

In part of our effort to move to a more natural, chemical free home, we are changing over our cleaning products as we use them up. The first product I finished was the windex glass cleaner. This great non-toxic DIY Glass and Mirror Cleaner is quick and easy to make and is now one of my cleaning staples.

This glass and mirror cleaner works well when cleaning with newspaper, though I have used it with a quality glass microfibre cloth with great results as well. If you have used a lot of windex or other glass cleaner in the past, you may have a build-up of wax on your windows and mirrors. These commercial products use wax to help them to produce a streak-free shine.

To make this Glass and Mirror cleaner, you will need:

  • a glass spray bottle ~ I used a 500ml bottle
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 10 drops Lemon or Citrus Blend or Lemon Essential Oil

Method:

Add the water, then white vinegar to the glass bottle.

Then add the essential oil and Household cleaner if using.

Tighten the spray lid onto the bottle and swirl to mix.

To use: Spray on window or mirror and wipe with newspaper or a glass microfibre cloth.

I use Lemon Essential oil or Citrus Bliss as it is good for cutting through grease left by little fingerprints.

I have created some small and large rectangle labels for your glass bottles.  To use these labels:

  • Choose which label you want and print the page on white sticker paper.
  • To make your label waterproof, cover with clear sticky tape of contact (book cover)
  • Cut out label on the dotted line
  • Stick the label to your bottle.
