Cleaning the bathroom is not an overly exciting job, but it needs to be done. This simple DIY Soft Scrub Cleaner is a great alternative to the commercial products and helps keep your bathroom and kitchen areas sparkly and smelling lovely.

DIY Soft Scrub Cleaner

This scrub is a great all-round cleaner that can help remove soap scum, stains, and leaves your tub, tiles and toilet looking bright. Depending on what I need to clean, sometimes I only make a half batch and use that as this cleaner does not keep well.

Bicarb soda is a very effective cleaner and I use it all the time for a variety of things. It is abrasive, so helps with stains as well as good with odours.

Castile soap is a gentle but effective multipurpose cleaner. You can replace this with Sal Suds which is great on grease and stubborn stains. I use it in our hand wash as well.

Essential oils – in this recipe I tend to use Lemon, Lime or Orange Essential oils as they are good with cleansing and deodorising. Lemon is great for cutting through the grease, removing stains and disinfecting.

The water can be replaced with hydrogen peroxide which has antiviral and antibacterial properties if you wish.

To make this soft scrub cleaner, you will need:

  • 1 cup bicarb soda (baking soda)
  • up to ΒΌ cup of Castile Soap
  • 1 TBSP water
  • 3-5 drops Essential Oils
  • Glass bowl
  • Metal spoon

To make this scrub, add the bicarb soda to a glass bowl with the water. Slowly add in the Castile soap while mixing until you reach the desired consistency. Add in the essential oils and mix well.

To use, simply add some of this scrub to a damp cloth, sponge or scrubber and gently massage into the surface you are cleaning, before rinsing well with water.
