Homemade Granola
This healthy granola contains a couple of delicious ingredients including oats, coconut oil, nuts and dried fruit and is naturally sweetened with maple syrup.
Making a wonderful breakfast meal or snack, this homemade granola can be eaten with milk, yoghurt or fresh fruit. It is so much better than store bought!
Homemade Granola Tips
- The almonds can be left whole or chopped into pieces. It all comes down to your preference.
- If you like lots of bigger clusters in your granola, press down more firmly before baking and don’t stir while cooling. You could also mix through a beaten egg white or two before baking.
- Other ingredients that could be added or swapped out for the dried cranberries include raisins, sultanas, chopped dates, or even dried cherries, blueberries or goji berries.
- Other nuts or seeds (such as sunflower seeds or pepitas) could be used in conjunction with the almonds, or substitute some with your favourite nuts.
- Honey could be used instead of maple syrup.
- Other optional mix-ins include citrus zest, dehydrated fruit, chocolate chips or chopped ginger (add after cooling).
Ingredients for Making Homemade Granola
To make about 6 cups of granola, you will need:
- 3 Cups (270g) Traditional Rolled Oats
- ½ Cup (70g) Almonds
- ¼ Cup (20g) Shredded Coconut
- ½ tsp (3g) Salt
- ½ tsp (1g) Ground Cinnamon
- ⅓ Cup (110g) Maple Syrup
- ¼ Cup (56g) Coconut Oil, Melted
- 1 tsp (5ml) Vanilla Extract
- ¾ Cup (100g) Dried Cranberries
Making Homemade Granola
Preheat oven to 160˚C (325˚F).
Line a large baking tray with baking paper.
In a large bowl, combine the traditional rolled oats, almonds, shredded coconut, salt and cinnamon.
In a small glass jug, combine the maple syrup, melted coconut oil and the vanilla extract.
Pour the syrup over the dry ingredients and mix to combine, making sure that all the dry ingredients are evenly coated.
Pour the mixture out onto the lined baking tray and spread out evenly, pressing down lightly to encourage clusters.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes until golden. Stir about half way through the baking time.
Remove from oven and allow to cool on tray. Do not stir, just let it sit. It crisps up as it cools.
Once fully cooled, stir through the dried cranberries.
