1940s Research Flip Book

The 40s was time of sorrow and patriotism as well as hope and new beginnings. Commonly known as ‘the war years,’ this era is synonymous with World War II.

The early years of this decade were dominated by World War II, that involved and affected many countries all around the world. Families experience food shortages, and rationing and school lessons were often disrupted or given in the outdoors as many school buildings had been damaged or destroyed during the fighting.

Learn about Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister of Great Britain during this time. He worked in the military, as a newspaper correspondent before becoming a Prisoner of War during the Second Boer War. After escaping, he ended up holding different offices in the government. When the country lost confidence in Chamberlain, Winston Churchill was chosen to be his successor, becoming Prime Minister on 10th may, 1040.

Children will also learn about Harry S. Truman, the 33rd President of the United States. He is known for helping end World War II, for the Marshall Plan and the Truman Doctrine and has many achievements during his time as President.
