‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ is a poem written in the early 1800s, by Dr. Clement C. Moore. Originally, it was called ‘A Visit from St. Nicholas’ by Moore for his children. Moore’s friend submitted the poem to the Troy Sentinel (New York), where it was published anonymously. After being reprinted a number of times, Moore finally accepted authorship and included it in a book of poems that he had written and then published in 1844.
