Natural Homemade Grout Cleaner

I love the look of tiles, but keeping the grout lines between the tiles clean can be a bit of a challenge. Dark grout does tend to hide the dirt better, but does not always go with your decor. Light-coloured grout is the most popular one that is found in most homes these days. Learn how to clean grout with a homemade natural grout cleaner, using common household items that you may already have on hand.

Natural Homemade Grout Cleaner

Before Cleaning Grout

You can get the grime off of the grout without using harsh chemicals, though you do need to be mindful of the tiles that you have. This is due to some products able to mark or destroy tiles made from certain materials. You will need to do your research as to what can be used near your tiles, as the grout cleaner will no doubt, get on your tiles. Test in a hidden area before using any products.

Bicarbonate of soda, also known as baking soda is an amazing product that helps fight against grout grime. This scouring powder gets down into the grout, cleaning out the dirt.

Not to Use on Grout

Harsh chemicals should be avoided when cleaning grout as they can deteriorate or remove the grout and damage the tiles. They can also be dangerous if inhaled.

Keeping Grout Clean

To keep grout spotless, try:

  • Clean weekly with a little vinegar and wiping it clean.
  • For floor grout, keep the floors vacuumed and mop up any spills immediately to avoid them soaking into the grout
  • Apply a grout sealer to offer protection
