Homemade Electrolyte Powder

Homemade Electrolyte Powder

Homemade electrolyte powder is quite easy to make. Then, once you have your powder, all you need to do is to add water to it when you want to make your drink.

Typically taken to replenish the body’s electrolyte balance, these refreshing and rejuvenating natural energy drinks, can be healthier and more customisable than commercial products.

This powder is also great as it needs no refrigeration and can be taken with you when going on camping or hiking trips. Just be careful as drinking too many electrolytes can cause serious health issues.

Caffeine

Many people often rely on caffeine for an energy boost as it stimulates the nervous system, giving you a boost of energy. But, along with this boost comes some negative side effects including:

  • Increased Anxiety
  • Jitteriness
  • Stomach Irritations
  • Headaches
  • Abnormal Heart Rhythms
  • Increased Blood Pressure

The side effects do affect everyone differently. Also, the amount of caffeine that each person can handle also differs. Too much caffeine can have extreme affects on your body and you can become dependant on it.

To break a dependency on caffeine, decrease your daily intake slowly. Fatigue and headaches may be felt during this process.

This electrolyte drink mix is a good way to boost energy, while limiting the amount of caffeine in your diet.

Symptoms of Low Electrolytes

Symptoms of low electrolytes can include:

  • Fatigue
  • Muscle Spasms or Cramping
  • Irregular Heartbeat
  • Headaches
  • Confusion
  • Changes in Blood Pressure

Electrolyte Drinks

These drinks contain essential minerals such as sodium, potassium and magnesium that are vital for many functions in our bodies.

Electrolytes help our bodies maintain water balance, carry electrical signals in our nervous systems and play a key role in helping our bodies maintain the correct pH balance.

When drinking an electrolyte drink, not only are you quenching your thirst, you are also replenishing the body of minerals that aid in muscle function, promote muscle relaxation and help your body maintain a healthy heartbeat.

Electrolyte Powder Variations

  • Other natural sweeteners can be used instead of the maple sugar. Try using stevia, maple syrup, honey, or agave. When using a liquid sweetener, leave the maple sugar out of the powder and add the liquid sweetener once you have rehydrated the drink.
  • Try using different salts such as pink Himalayan.
  • Add a little spice such are ginger or turmeric powder.
  • For a little fizz, add some carbonated water when rehydrating.
  • Once rehydrated, you could add an extract such as vanilla, mint, orange, or lemon for some flavour
  • Green tea or matcha powder could also be added.
