Farm Animals Colour Matching Cards
These farm animal themed colour matching cards are a great way for children to learn to recognise colours. There are cards for thirteen different colours – black, blue, red, white, yellow, orange, purple, green, brown, tan, teal, grey and pink.
There is also a black and white page for children to create their own matching cards by colouring in the pictures.
Learning Colours
Even though many young children should already know their colours, these cards are a great way for them to practice and explore colour concepts. They may be introduced to colours they haven’t used before, as well as practice learning to see and match different colours.
To Prepare
Once you have downloaded the printable, print out the cards. There are four main cards per letter sheet that will then need to be cut out. There are six colour cards per letter sheet that will also need to be cut out. I recommend laminating all for durability.
To Use
- Place the big cards out and all the colour cards in a pile. Children will then pick up a colour card and place it in the dotted square on the big card.
- Mix up all the colour cards and children can pick them up out of the pile and line them up in their colours.
- Children can place coloured mini erasers, pom poms, or counters in the correct box on the big cards.

You could write the name of the colour on the back of each card before laminating to make this activity a self-check one. For very young children, you could also place velcro dots on the spots on the big colour cards and on the back of the small colour cards.
