Blueberries are packed with antioxidants, making them a wonderful addition to your diet. Whether you are going to visit a you-pick farm to pick your own, or have invested in adding blueberries bushes to your garden, there is a good chance that at some point in the summer, you will need to find a way to deal with a wonderful abundance of this summer favourite. The good news is that there are many ways to use  your abundance of blueberries.

Blueberries do not have a long shelf life, so when you have a large harvest or find a great deal in the peak of summer, try some these creative ways to make use your large stash of blueberries.

Smoothies

Smoothies are a great way to use up a lot of blueberries. These make a great sweet addition that goes well with other berries, bananas and can help add flavour to your favorite protein powder.

Muffins

Blueberry muffins are a favourite for many. These simple treats are great for serving with breakfast, in your child’s lunchbox for school or with a coffee for morning or afternoon tea. Make a large batch of muffins and freeze in individual packing, ready to use during the following weeks. To use, simply place them in the fridge, the night before ready for breakfast and beyond the next day.

For those who have their own sourdough starter going, try these delicious blueberry muffins made with the sourdough starter discard.

Pancakes and waffles

Blueberry pancakes and waffles are a lot of fun. Try making this delicious blueberry syrup to serve with your pancakes or waffles, and ice cream.

Blueberry pie

If you need to use up a large number of blueberries quickly, try making a lovely blueberry pie. This is a great dessert for holidays or a sweet treat. You could also try canning blueberry pie filling, so that you are able to enjoy these yummy blueberry pie when blueberries are out of season.

Blueberry cheesecake

This lovely baked blueberry cheesecake is so delicious and not that hard to make. It makes a great dessert to enjoy with your family or guests.

Flavour yoghurt

Yogurt makes a great snack, especially on a hot day. You can easily make your own yogurt at home, and add a bunch of fresh, clean blueberries. For a stronger flavour, try crushing the blueberries before adding them to your yoghurt.

Blueberry ice cream

Add some fresh blueberries and a dash of blueberry syrup to a homemade ice cream for a fresh and delightful summer treat. This is a great way to enjoy blueberries on a hot summer day.

Blueberry cobbler

If you want a fun hot baked dessert give your hand at making a homemade blueberry cobbler a try. Cobblers and crisps are easy to make and can even be done in your slow cooker so you do not need to heat your house up on a hot summer day. Serve with vanilla ice cream for the perfect treat.

This homemade blueberry jam is so easy to make and tastes delicious!

Dying Eggs

Easily make your own gorgeous, naturally dyed blueberry dyed eggs. This is a fun activity for kids to help with, especially during the Easter season.

Pumpkin and Blueberry Bread

So this may sound a bit weird, but it is something that you just have to try. This moist pumpkin and blueberry bread makes a great addition to a morning or afternoon tea, an after school snack or try a slice for breakfast.

Infused Water

A delicious way to make sure you drink enough water while using some fresh blueberries is with these fun, fruit infused coconut water recipes.

Fruit Platter

Create a delicious, fresh fruit platter to enjoy. Adding multiple fruits, including blueberries, platter is a fun way for children to enjoy some fresh fruit, especially during the warmer months.
