Chamomile
Chamomile is a wonderful little herb with antibacterial properties that can help sooth irritated skin, relieving rashes, reduce redness and minimise scars and marks. When using chamomile in soap, its is known to help eliminate pimples and clear acne, heal eczema and psoriosis as well as help keep your skin smooth and healthy.
The two common types of chamomile are German Chamomile and Roman Chamomile. If you are into gardening, these herbs make awonderful addition to your garden patch.
Roman chamomile, Anthemis nobilis, is a low-lying perennial that is used for relaxation and digestive health.
German chamomile, Matricaria chamimilla syn. Matricaria recutita, is a taller, annual that smells like sweet summer hay and apples and is great for sore muscles, skin complaints, eczema and for a relaxing cup of tea.
For this soap recipe, the flowers from both the German and Roman chamomile can be used.
Note: For those that are allergic to ragweed there is a small chance that you may have an allergic reaction to chamomile as well. Make sure to spot test any products containing chamomile and avoid if any itching or allergic reaction occurs.
Essential Oils
Essential oils are potent, and need to be diluted. As this cream is being used on your body and face, you will need to use essential oils that are gentle enough to be applied to your skin β and use in the correct quantities. Be careful to avoid sensitive areas like your eyes.
German chamomile essential oil is bright blue while Roman chamomile essential oil is a much paler shade of blue, and can even look clear. When used in lotions, creams, and serums, German chamomile essential oil can help ease the symptoms of eczema and inflammation while also helping to regenerate the skin.

Goat’s Milk Soap Base
Having a child that is allergic to certain ingredients found in many commercial soaps, I like to make my own soaps. Using a melt and pour soap is easy, especially when I don’t have a lot of time. Though there are many different types of melt and pour bases, the one I use the most is goat’s milk soap.
Some benefits of using goat’s milk soap base include:
- Has less allergenic than commercial soaps and detergents and has the closest PH level to our skin
- It is known to reduce skin inflammation and soothe dry and damaged skin
- Can help slow down the effects of aging, reducing wrinkles while moisturising the skin
- Is loaded with essential nutrients and vitamins including A, B6, C, B12, D and E
- Is easily absorbed into the skin
- Acts as a gentle exfoliator
- Soothes the skin helping with skin inflammation such including eczema and psoriasis

To make this soap, you will need:

Chop up the melt and pour soap base into small, equal sized squares.
