Some of the boys cushions covers for their beds were starting to fall apart, so I decided to look for some new ones. I had a bit of trouble finding covers in the colours I wanted and also found the price for some of them to be way out of my price range.
I was in the Op Shop looking for something else, when I found a yellow tablecloth. It was exactly the colour I had been looking for and decided to try and make my own cushion covers out of it.
As I am not a very good sewer, I can’t really do zips very well and I didn’t have any buttons, so I made these simple cushion covers. It took me less than 30 minutes to make two cushion covers, which I thought was great.
My cushion inserts were 18″x18″ so that is the size I made the cushion covers.
I measured out two strips of fabric that were 18″ wide and 42″ long (18″+18″+6″ for the overlap), then sewed all the edges to make sure they wouldn’t fray.
Then I pinned the cushion cover into place before sewing it. Make sure you pin it with the front of the pillow on the inside ~ inside out. You could also iron it to help as well, but I don’t like ironing, so I didn’t iron it.
After I sewed up the sides, I turned it the right side out and voila! A simple yellow cushion cover.
