Easy 3 Ingredient Scones

We loved them, they were so soft and fluffy and tasted great with jam and they are so easy to bake. The kids can make them on their own, they are just that easy.

We especially love these with our homemade strawberry or rosella jam.

Serving these Scones

These scones are perfect for morning or afternoon tea, though I have been known to eat them for breakfast and as a dessert too!

Serve warmed and then topped with some butter, jam and cream. We love strawberry jam, though apricot jam and blackberry jam are great too!

Scones are best served fresh and luckily, they are quick and easy to make. Though, if you want to make them ahead of time, make the dough and cover the bowl before placing it in the fridge. Use within 24 hours or store the dough in the freezer for up to one month.

Thaw the frozen dough in the fridge before baking the scones.

Storing Scones

Make sure the scones are completely cooled before storing.

Store these scones in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

They also store well in the freezer. Wrap each one individually with cling wrap and then place in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.

Reheat in the oven or microwave before adding any toppings.

Tips for Making Scones

Making the perfect scones is actually quite simple, especially with these helpful tips.

  • Use cold butter – The colder the butter is, the more light and fluffy the scones will be.
  • Grate or cut the butter  – Grating or cutting the butter into very small pieces helps it incorporate into the dough quicker. This helps to minimise the butter melting when incorporating into the mixture.
  • The size of the scone cutter you use depends on how many scones you wish to make. A smaller cutter will make more delicate scones while a large cutter makes less scones.
  • Work quick – The perfect scones come from dough that has not been overworked, with minimal melting of the butter.
  • Bake until they are just starting to turn golden brown.
