While studying space, we read the book Jake in Space Moon Attack as well as completed some fun space themed printables and activities.

Space Book Poppins

There is a website that goes with this book that contains a few activities for parents and teachers, which you can find here: Jake in Space.

We did quite a few fun space activities, which our boys really enjoyed, especially this first one: Sugar Cookie Solar System. They loved eating these biscuits.

We have been learning about the Solar System and since the boys love to cook, I thought it would be fun for them to help make some a sugar cookie solar system.

We also created Swirly Whirly Planets which was a fun hands-on, science experiment activity.

Make these fun Swirly, Whirly Planets with milk, detergent, food colouring and cotton buds. This fun experiment goes great as part of a Space Study.

The boys also created their own Galaxy Shirt from cheap shirts we purchased.

This easy DIY Galaxy Shirt is a fun and exciting hands-on activity that kids will love while completing a study on Space.

And just for fun, the boys made an edible Solar System out of food we had in the house.

Food Solar System

They used a pumpkin for the Sun, blueberries for Mercury and Mars, Grapes for Earth and Venus, a grapefruit for Jupiter, an orange for Saturn and mandarines for Uranus and Neptune.

As part of our space learning, we made this awesome Galaxy Slime from TWODALOO. Though, being in Australia, we had to change a few ingredients. I was able to find Elmer’s glue in small bottles at Woolworths and instead of the Sta-Flo liquid Starch, I used Fabulon Starch. I purchased the spray bottle and took the lid off to pour it into the mixture. I also don’t have liquid watercolours, so I used food colouring.

The boys loved playing with this slime and as you can see I did it outdoors which turned out to be a great idea. While they were playing with it, I had a phone call. By the time I had finished on the call, they had it everywhere. Boys will be boys!
