We read a book about constellations, which really seemed to get the boys interested in the stars and the night sky. They were trying to memorise some of the constellations and having a bit of trouble, so I made these Constellation Cards to help them.
- star stickers
- dry erase marker
I printed out our constellation cards on white paper and then laminated them. These cards can be used in a variety ways. Some of the ways we used them are:
- as 3 part / vocabulary cards
- in memory / matching games
- once laminated, use a dry erase marker to trace the shapes of the constellations to help learn the different shapes
- as reference cards while looking for the constellations in the sky
- to create your own ‘constellations’
Our boys had a great time trying to learn the shapes of each constellation. I then printed out an extra copy, a third copy, of the cards. With this set, I used a small star punch to punch holes where the stars are in the constellations. That night, one of the boys held the card up towards the ceiling while the other shone a torch onto the card. They loved seeing the constellations come to life on the roof. I’m not sure they would be able to find them in the night sky, but they are slowly learning the shapes.
