Simple Machines Sorting Mats

With these Simple Machines Sorting Mats, children will be learning about the six types of simple machines while learning about sorting.

Simple Machines Sorting Mats

In this simple machines sorting pack, you will receive:

• 6 Sorting mats in colour and black and white – Wheel and axel; Lever; Wedge; Inclined plane; Screw; and Pulley
• 39 Cards in colour and black and white

To Prepare

To prepare, print out all the pages on white paper or card stock.  

After grabbing your copy the pdf file, you will need to cut out the simple machine cards. For durability, I then recommend laminating the mats and the cards. Children can colour in the black and white mats and cards before laminating.

You could write the name of the simple machine on the back of each card before laminating to make this activity a self-check one. For very young children, you could also place velcro dots on the sorting mats and on the back of the simple machine cards so children can place the cards on the dots.

To Use

This activity is pretty straightforward. Have your child match the correct simple machine onto the correct mats. For young children, start familiarising them with the simple machines one at a time.
