Ordinal Numbers Clip Cards

Ordinal numbers are one of the many math concepts that young children will learn. Many children will become aware of ordinal numbers through watching races which will help them recognise and be able to describe the order that the competitors finished the race. A fun way to build on these skills is with these Ordinal Numbers Clip Cards.

Ordinal Numbers Clip Cards

Before moving onto ordinal numbers, children will need to be able to count forwards and backwards by 1’s, as they will need to be able to connect numbers with the ordinal numbers terms – first, second, third as well as the short versions – 1st, 2nd and so on.

With these black and white and colour printable cards, children will be practicing the ordinal numbers from first through tenth.

There are 32 cards that focus on first through fifth and 24 cards that focus on first through tenth.

There is a mixture of cards that contain ordinal numbers and ordinal number words for children to work on.

Using Clip Cards

Clip cards which children will look at the picture and clip the correct answer with a peg or a paperclip. They could also place a pom pom, mini eraser or a counter on top of the correct answer.

For this pack, there is an arrow above the image that children are to mark the correct position of.

To Prepare

To prepare these cards, first you will need to print them out on either white paper or cardstock. For durability, they can then be cut and laminated.

The cards could be kept together with a binder ring placed in the top left hand corner.

To Use

Children will first start with the smaller cards, the first to fifth cards. 

After looking for the arrow, they will count all the children, animals or objects until they get to the one that has an arrow placed above it.

They will then mark the answer they have come up with on the row with the ordinal numbers or number words.
