Homemade Alfredo Pesto Sauce

Alfredo Pesto Sauce

Alfredo is a creamy pasta sauce that is made using butter, cream and parmesan cheese. Known for its smooth texture, it is usually served with fettuccine pasta.

Pesto and Alfredo make a wonderful combination that is sure to excite your taste buds. This match made in heaven is a wonderful combination of creaminess and flavour filled pesto.

Using simple ingredients, this sauce is easy to pull together when needing a quick addition to a week night meal. It is a great option for those who are unable to have or are avoiding tomatoes.

Though you can purchase basil pesto to use in this recipe, it is easy to make your own. This easy to follow recipe shows how to make and store your own homemade basil pesto. Having a jar in the fridge or some in the freezer, will help make this so much easier and quicker to create.

Using Alfredo Pesto Sauce

  • Toss the sauce through your favourite cooked pasta – Cook 150g of pasta following the instructions on the packet.
  • Pour as a sauce over cooked chicken such as chicken cutlets
  • Drizzle over roast vegetables
  • Serve over meatballs
  • Serve alongside garlic bread or a simple salad

Alfredo Pesto Sauce Variations

  • Try using olive oil instead of butter
  • Instead of the cream, you can use milk, evaporated milk or a mixture of milk and Greek yoghurt, though it may be thinner and not as creamy
  • Add up to 113g of room temperate cream cheese for an extra creamy and cheesy taste
  • Add ΒΌ tsp nutmeg for a lovely flavour
  • Instead of parmesan cheese, try using mozzarella
  • You can add a splash of white wine if you wish
  • For a dairy free sauce, try using coconut milk or cashew milk and using nutritional yeast instead of parmesan. Swap out the butter for a dairy-free option or olive oil.
  • For those on a vegan diet, use plant-based cream and omit the cheese. Instead of cream, you could try using nutritional yeast.

Smooth and Creamy Sauce

For a delicious, smooth and creamy sauce, make sure to use ingredients that are all at room temperature.

The cheese will blend in easier if finely grated and adding it in gradually will also help.

Stirring the sauce continually with a whisk will also help prevent clumping for occurring.

The last tip for getting a smooth and creamy sauce is to maintain a consistent heat, avoiding to overheat which can cause the sauce to separate.
