Essential Capsule Wardrobe for Mums

An essential capsule wardrobe is one that contains a collection of tops, bottoms, shoes and accessories that can be mixed, matched and layered to create a whole host of causal and dressy outfits. It contains a few basic items that can be worn year-round, changing them up with the seasons. The pieces that you choose should, fit you well, work with your lifestyle and are comfortable; items that you enjoy wearing.

Your capsule wardrobe will not the same as everyone else’s. It is individual to you. The amount of tops, bottoms or shoes can be adjusted to suit your needs. If you prefer to wear dresses more, remove some tops and bottoms and include more dresses.

An example would be a wardrobe of 40 items, which could include:

  • 12 tops
  • 11 bottoms/dresses
  • 8 jackets
  • 9 pairs of shoes

If you have more cold weather where you are, you may want to add more jackets and take off shoes or tops instead, or in summer, you may want more lightweight dresses and no jackets or cardigans. As mentioned previously, it all depends on what you like to wear and what the weather is like in your area. It is ideal to have a majority of your clothes plain in a couple of different colours and add a pop of colour or pattern here and there. It’s all up to you!
