With growing kids, eventually you will come across some funky odors, whether in sports shoes, gym bags, sports gear or yoga mats, that will need to be eliminated. This DIY Smelly Shoe Spray is a powerful deodoriser, has antibacterial and anti fungal properties as well as a great disinfectant which makes even the smelliest of shoes smelling clean and fresh again.
You will need:
- witch hazel ~ has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties to help get rid of odors
- distilled water ~ dilutes the spray. It can be omitted and fill the bottle with witch hazel instead
- essential oils ~ has antibacterial and anti fungal properties, great disinfectant, deodorises and smell great
- 250ml glass spray / spritzer bottle
Essential oils you could use:
- 5 drops each of Lavender and Melaleuca (Tea Tree)
- 3 drops each of Peppermint, Lavender, Lemon
- 10 drops Purification blend
- 3 drops each of Peppermint, Melaleuca, Lavender
To make your DIY Smelly Shoe Spray
- Add 10 drops of essential oils to your glass spray bottle
- Half fill the bottle with witch hazel
- Fill the other half with distilled water
- Put the top on the bottle
- Shake the bottle to mix
- Spray the inside of your shoes with the mixture
Note: With leather shoes, make sure you don’t spray the leather, just the foot pad. Or, if you prefer not to use a spray, you could add some essential oils to a cotton ball and put the ball inside each shoe when not in use.
