The kids will love helping create this portable garage with mini race track. They will have a place to store their cars and then a fun race track to race their cars on.

Portable Garage with Mini Race Track

To create this garage and track, you will need:

  • One x Tab Locking Mailer Box, a box with the dimensions – 17”L x 11”W x 4”H
  • 54 Empty Toilet Paper Rolls (You can also cut paper towel rolls to size)
  • Construction Paper of your choice (we chose black for our pavement. But don’t be scared to let your child design something unconventional)
  • Large Black Marker
  • Duct Tape
  • Scissors
  • Glue Gun with Glue

To make this garage and track, first you will need to gather your supplies and warm up your glue gun.

Then, use the duct tape to decorate the outside of your box. The box we had was green in colour, so we covered that up.

Then measure and cut the construction paper into strips.

Glue the strips onto the inside of the lid to create your race track. Place strips of duct tape over this track to differentiate between the race lanes.

With the black permanent marker, make dashed lines to indicated lane separators on the edge of the duct tape.

Write a giant ‘FINISH’ in marker at the end of the lines.

Add a small strip of glue to a toilet paper roll to glue it to the one next to it. Continue until all the rolls are glued together inside the box.

To finish your garage off, write ‘GARAGE’ on the top flap. You could even write your child’s name eg. Sam’s Garage or Ruth’s Garage.

Once completely dry, your garage is ready to store and race on!

They could race their cars and even time them if they want.

This is such a fun activity for children, especially those who love playing with cars!
