The house we are currently living in is very old and has no screens. This allows the bugs come and go as they please which is not good for us. Ants seem love the inside of our house and are everywhere, coming in and out of the cracks in the walls and floors (it really is an old house). I really detest these little creatures in the house.
Peppermint essential oil has a variety of uses and is a staple in many people’s houses. Although it is good for freshening your breathe, it also helps to soothe nausea, cool overworked muscles, clear congestion and give relief from headaches.
It is also very important to remember that peppermint essential oil is quite intense and far more concentrated than other essential oils. If applying topically, it is necessary to dilute with a carrier oil like almond or jojoba oil. Some people, especially those with sensitive skin, may experience a burning sensation or allergic rash, so please follow the directions on the bottle when using and never use on young children or those who are pregnant.
Peppermint oil also has antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, insecticidal, antispasmodic and carminative properties, so breathing it in after spraying your house for bugs can also have some advantages for you.
To make your natural ant spray, you will need:
- glass spray bottle (250ml)
- 15 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- 1 cup (8 ounces) water
Directions:
1. Pour peppermint oil and water into spray bottle and shake it well.
2. Spray the mixture directly at ants, as well as around your windows, doors, edges of the room and entry-points.
3. This natural ant spray also works on spiders, mice, ants, cockroaches, mosquitos or ticks, so I like to spray in the corners of all rooms as well.
