Days 106-107
Day 106
Today we left Jenny’s Farm Stay, heading for another farm stay in Albany. We drove through a big town, Collie, that was surrounded by massive coal mines.
And some more awesome yellow fields!
We drove to the farm stay that we were planning on staying at, but felt uneasy there. The black dirt on the ground and the forecast for rain just didn’t go together for us and the last thing we needed was to get stuck. So we took off, looking for somewhere else to stay.
We happened across this caravan park just out of Denmark. It was quite close to all the attractions that we wanted to see and when we rang them and they gave us a special ‘winter’ price, we took it.
On arriving at Karri Aura Caravan Park and Motel Suites, we were met with a very happy and enthusiastic owner. We have found this to be an amazing place, each caravan site has their own ensuite which is awesome! The cost of washing is a bit cheaper than the bigger caravan parks as well. An awesome find!
We were in site 13 which was really good. Last one down the back with lots of space!
The view was awesome when it wasn’t raining!
Day 107
Today we woke up to another wet day, but it didn’t last very long. We headed straight for Dinosaur World. Our boys are dinosaur crazy, so when they heard about this place they were over the moon.
There were lots of replica dinosaur skeletons.
Lots of reptiles; lizards and snakes,
And back to the dinosaur skeletons.
They love the T-Rex!
And the velociraptor!
Outside there were many tame birds that just sat on the branches, one loved repeating ‘Hello Darling’ when you said it.
And than back to the snakes again.
Each day at 11am and 2pm they have reptile handling. Though our boys have already held the blue-tongued skink and the bearded dragon and snakes many times before, they really enjoyed holding them again.
They haven’t held a bird on our adventure yet, so when they were given the opportunity to have one sit on their shoulder, of course, they agreed.
The owner asked if they wanted a funny photo and they both agreed, so he put the bearded dragon on their heads for a photo!
This snake was very lively and R had trouble controlling it, so B didn’t have a hold of it.
The bird loved R’s zip for some reason.
The boys really enjoyed Dinosaur World, but it was time to head off to the Valley of the Giants and see the giant trees!
To walk on the Tree Top Walk, you have to pay, so we did the free Ancient Empire walk and still got to see the massively tall trees.
B looks so small compared to the tall trees.
Can you see B here?
They called this the Granny tree as it looks like a kind old lady.
These are the roots of one of the trees that had fallen over. B is around 140 cm tall.
Then it was off to Greens Pool. Located in William Bay National Park it is almost completely sheltered from the waves so would be an awesome swimming spot in warmer weather.
Not too far from Greens Pool is Elephant Rock. As the weather wasn’t really on our side (the wind was really icy), so we drove to the Elephant Rock car park and took the short walk from there.
The elephant rocks were awesome!
Finally, we headed to a Winery. We just had to try a winery. There are so many down this are of Western Australia, so we thought we had better give it a go. On arriving at Denmark Farmhouse, we were amazed at the variety of products they sell. Fudge, cheese, preserves, ice cream, wine, and lots of chocolates and lollies.
We sat down and had a small gourmet platter that contained 6 cheeses and some ham, salami and prosciutto. The pear and port jam was amazing! The boys really enjoyed tasting the different cheeses on their bread.
The boys slept really well after such a long and busy day. Getting ready to start the Nullarbor soon!
