Lap of Oz: Day 3 Carnarvon Gorge

Day 3

Day 3

After leaving the Injune Racecourse at around 10am, we filled up our fuel  and stocked up the pantry before heading to Carnarvon Gorge. Injune is the last dump point and fuel stations before Carnarvon, so make sure you empty your rubbish and fill up your fuel before you leave.

We had booked into the Takarakka Bush Resort for two days and rang them before we left to make sure there road was not blocked with rain. We also said we weren’t able to book in until just before 2pm, so we didn’t rush there.

The last 13km of the track into Takarakka was dirt. We stopped to let down our tyres as we found it quite corrugated, though many others just drove by, very quickly.

On arriving at Takarakka and setting up our caravan in a drive through large rig site before walking down to the Platypus Pool.

We were very lucky to catch a glimpse of such a shy animal. It was really hard to get a photo of it as it was moving so fast!

Platypus Pool

Right next to the platypus pool, we were able to see a couple of wallabies having a snack.

We then went for a walk around the Resort looking for the laundry. There were 2 washing machines and no dryers. We were going to do a load of washing (cost $5 – get the token and washing powder from Reception), but then realised it would probably get dirty again very quickly with the cars driving around the Resort, spraying dust everywhere.

The communal fire pit was great as well as the camp kitchen. The toilets and showers were always very clean and tidy too.
