Our boys love anything glow in the dark and when we were asked to review Egglo Entertainment’s Glow in the Dark Egglo Eggs and The Egg-cellent Easter Adventure Book, the boys were jumping for joy!
Every day, when the boys saw the courier, they ran for the front door, waiting for the glow in the dark eggs to arrive. Until the day it finally arrived. Then they couldn’t wait for the eggs to be charged!
The Egglo-cellent Easter Adventure Program is a fun and exciting Easter Egg Hunt program that uses glow in the dark eggs to focus on the true meaning of Easter. Based on is John 1:5 – “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not,” these glow in the dark eggs can be used in many ways to teach children the true meaning of Easter.
The Egg-cellent Adventure Program Guide has 60 pages full of ideas and activities and resources to help you organise your own Easter Egg Hunt. Included are invitations, decorations, posters, recipes for snacks and many ideas on how you can use the glow in the dark eggs and host your own Easter egg hunt.
The Glow in the dark Egglo eggs come in a pack of 12, in four different colours: blue, green, yellow and pink. Six of the eggs are plain while the other six are decorated with a cross. These eggs need to be charged before use with the charging time depending on what you use to charge them, sunlight, uv light or incandescent light. The glow lasts around 1 hour before starting to diminish.
The Egg-cellent Adventure book is a 40 page book with illustrations. The two boys and one girl with their dog go on an amazing treasure hunt following the glowing eggs which contain Bible verses and a clue to the next stop on their hunt.
How did we go?
The first thing I did, was print out the Program Guide and the boys and I went through it deciding what we were going to do.
We chose to do a small Easter Egg hunt. Our boys helped me cut out the decorations and hang them on a small wooden tree. Then they blew up some yellow and white balloons, which we hung around the backyard.
Then it was time to fill the eggs. We added an Egglo Treasure Scripture Scroll and a small chocolate Easter egg to them, and then set about to charge them. We charged the eggs for about an hour under the lights in the dining room as it had been a rather wet day, so no sunlight was available.
While we were waiting for the eggs to charge, we laid down on the couch and listened to the Adventure Book Audio Cd while following along in the Egg-cellent Easter Adventure Book.
The boys then made some of the ‘treats’ that were in the Egg-cellent Easter Program Guide while I hid the Glow in the Dark eggs outside.
They made the tomb of Jesus out of lettuce (grass), a bagel with cream cheese (the tomb) and a piece of cucumber for the stone.
They also made some ‘torches’ by pushing a pretzel stick into a marshmallow and then dipping the end of the marshmallow into melted white chocolate and yellow sprinkles.
Then it was off outside to find the eggs!!
The first hunt we had involved the boys finding the eggs. When they had found all of the eggs, we talked about how to find Jesus in all the darkness that surrounds us.
We then did a second hunt that was more like a treasure hunt. I drew a map for them to follow and they would pick up eggs as they went. After finishing this treasure hunt, we talked about how we should continue to follow the light of Jesus and not get carried off into the darkness.
Overall, we have really enjoyed our time using these Glow In the Dark eggs. There are so many different ways that they can be used and not just for Easter. We have found that they are great for opening up discussions about the Bible, Jesus being the light of the World and the events that took place at Easter all those years ago. We would certainly recommend them!
The Egg-Cellent Easter Adventure book was also great for our boys, though it may be a little long for little children. Even though the book has beautiful pictures, there is a lot of text. It took us around 30 minutes to listen to the audio-cd and follow along in the book.
