Homemade Anti Itch Spray

Homemade Anti Itch Spray

Providing a cool relief and helping eliminate itching, this homemade anti-itch spray can be used on mosquito bites, poison ivy, sunburn and stinging nettle burns.

Before Using this Spray

Before using this anti-itch spray, you will need to understand a few things.

  • Don’t use on skin with open wounds or cuts.
  • Test on small area of skin before using.  If there’s any irritation, dilute with carrier oils.
  • Wash hands well after using.
  • I wouldn’t use this spray on children 10 years and younger due to the menthol crystals and the essential oils.

Essential Oils

You can add a few drops of essential oils to this spray if you wish, though please remember that essential oils are potent, and need to be diluted.

As this spray is being used near your body, you will need to use essential oils that are gentle enough to be applied on the skin – and used in the correct quantities.

Just be careful using some essential oils such as tea tree and peppermint, around children and pregnant women, making sure to do your research before using.

Ingredients for Making Homemade Anti Itch Spray

To make around 1 cup of anti itch spray, you will need:

  • ½ tsp Menthol Crystals
  • 1 Cup Witch Hazel
  • 1 TBSP Aloe Vera Gel
  • 7 drops Essential Oils such as Peppermint or Lavender – Optional

Making Anti Itch Spray

Pour the witch hazel into a small saucepan. Heat over low heat until it is warm. It should not be too hot to touch. This could also be done in a glass microwaveable jug. Just slowly heat the witch hazel in short bursts.

Slowly mix in the menthol crystals until they dissolve.

Set the saucepan aside to cool down.

If using essential oils, pour the aloe vera gel into a small bowl and mix through the essential oils.

When not using, store the spray bottle in the fridge. It should last a week or two when stored this way.

If you want to keep it any longer, you will need to add a preservative of your choice.

Using this Anti-Itch Spray

To use, spray onto the itch and let it dry on the skin. Use as needed.
