Place the first ingredient in a jug.Add the milk.Stir and let stand at room temperature for five minutes, until it thickens before using as required.

Fill a jar with a lid half way up with the cream.
Add the lid, making sure it is secured tightly.
Shake the bottle back and forth. First, the cream will turn into thickened cream. Keep shaking until you have a glob of butter and a separate liquid. This liquid is buttermilk.
Pour the buttermilk out of the jar and use as required.
To complete making the butter, knead the glob under cold water for a couple of minutes to make sure to remove any of the remaining buttermilk. Add a little salt and store in the fridge until you are ready to use.
