Place the water into a saucepan and heat over medium-heat.
As the water is heating, slice the ginger into thin slices and then add it to the saucepan.
If adding any of the optional ingredients, add them. Either place one cinnamon stick or sliced turmeric (great for inflammation) or the springs of mint into the saucepan as well.
Bring the water to a boil and then allow to steep for around 4 to 5 minutes.
Remove the saucepan and strain while pouring into a mug. If preparing ahead, strain and pour into a mason jar.
Add an optional extra such as honey, agave or maple syrup for sweetness, if desired.
A slice of lemon or orange add to the tea adds extra soothing benefits as well.
