Sweaty Eggplant Experiment

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my full disclosure policy.

Eggplants are plants that need water to grow, but how do you make them sweat? This sweaty eggplant experiment is such a fun experiment.

Sweaty Eggplant Experiment

What you need:

  • 2 slices of eggplant
  • 2 teaspoons of salt

How to make your Eggplant Sweat:

Place the 2 slices of eggplant side-by-side on a plate.

Sweaty Eggplant Experiment 1

Sprinkle the 2 teaspoons of salt onto one of the eggplant slices. Leave the other piece of eggplant alone.

Sweaty Eggplant Experiment 2

Leave alone for half an hour. When you come back, look closely at the two slices of eggplant. Which one has little drops of water coming out and appears like it is sweating?

Sweaty Eggplant Experiment 3

The longer you leave it, the more it sweats, but you should see it start to sweat within half an hour.

How does this work?

An eggplant is a plant in which water flows in and out of its tiny cells. By sprinkling salt on the eggplant, the surroundings of the plant contain more salt than the inside. This makes the eggplant to look like it is sweating.

This process is also used in cooking eggplants. It helps takes the bitterness out of the eggplant.
