Science4Us is an online science curriculum that covers a variety of topics. It is aimed for children in grades K-2, but it is great for older children (up to grade 5) to use as review. It allows children to investigate, explore and experiment with fun, animated activities and printable worksheets.
There are 4 main sections in this program:
- Physical Science which includes the topics of Matter, Energy, Force and Motion
- Inquiry which includes the topics of Science Skills
- Life which includes the topics Living Things and Balance in Nature
- Earth/Space which includes the topics Earth and Space
Overall this program covers 28 different modules and has over 350 online lessons, hands-on activities and worksheets available for you to use.
As this is an online program, your child will need to have basic computer knowledge. You will also need a computer or laptop with a reasonably fast internet and access to a printer. Occasionally you will need household and stationery items for the offline activities as well.
Above is an example of what you child will see when they log in.
How did we use it?
We received 6 months free for this review, for both of our boys. They were each given their own log in details as each child needs their own account. I also was given my own log in details to sign into the Teacher/Admin area.
As our boys are in Grade 2 and 4, the first thing I did was check out the Second Grade Science Lessons and the suggestions for Grades 3 to 5.
Then we watched some of the interactive Science Demos before the boys started. The boys then each had a turn to log in. Once our oldest boy was logged into the dashboard, we watched the getting Student Guide video which we found to be very helpful.
Each boy then chose which Book of Science they wanted to complete: Physical Science, Inquiry, Life Science or Earth / Space Science. Then it was time to pick a topic then a module. Once into the module, they went through the lessons in order, starting with the engage lesson. They worked their way through the whole module before completing the evaluation. All up, this usually took them around 30 minutes to complete.
I found that the boys were able to complete the activities on their own, but I always sat with them when they completed the evaluation. This way I was able to see how much they had learnt and if they were having any trouble with the lessons.
I have to say they both really enjoyed using this program and I had a bit of trouble getting them off, so the other one could use it. Though the videos sometimes took a bit of time to load, they were very engaging and fun for the boys. They really enjoyed the Silly Bulls activities.
Above is an example of what you will see in the teacher area.
The teacher area is packed with valuable teaching tools. You can assign your children lessons, print out student reports and print out worksheets and ideas which are great for off line learning. You can also view each topic to see what your child will be learning about.
So what do you get?

We have found that Science4Us.com is an excellent and fun way to bring science into our homeschool. Our boys have had a really great time using this program. We will continue to use it in our homeschool, though only to compliment our current science curriculum.
I did notice in the earth section it taught from an evolutionary viewpoint; teaching that animals and plants were created millions of years ago and have changed over time. In our house, we do not believe in evolution or that things are “millions of years old,” so the boys skipped those couple of topics. But this is just our belief.
