Organisation is one of the hardest challenges for me. Trying to have all the educational materials and subjects organised for the boys is very time consuming. It usually takes me a good part of the weekend to get everything ready for the following week. Then along comes a dated pdf of My Student Logbook by Corina Abbott.
My Student Logbook is a daily planner that covers a full week per page. They come in printed and pdf form. There are many covers to chose from in the printed form, the pdf form does not have a cover, so you are free to make your own.
In addition to the daily log pages, they also include:
- How to use My Student Logbook
- An All About Me Page
- Prayers and Goals
- Bible Verses Memorized log
- Books Read Log
- Events, Projects, Field Trips, Presentations and Activities
- Test Records
- Year Highlights
Setting up your log book is easy. Attach the checklist to the left hand side, fill out the tasks for your child and your done. Each day, when the tasks are completed, your child can check them off under the appropriate day of the week.
The checklist is folded in way that it is able to be used week after week, and when you decide to change the tasks, you can add a new checklist and tasks. For instructions on how to set up the Student Logbook, check out this page: Set Up your Student Logbook.
Below is a great video that shows how to use the Student Logbook.
When putting together our pdf logbook, I added a green piece of paper as the cover and my oldest boy decorated it with stickers that he found, before I bound the book together.
We use the ACE curriculum as well as a few online programs for our boys education. For the first couple of weeks, I wrote the ACE subjects down first in the checklist and then followed them with the online programs he was to complete. In the time slot, I wrote the days he was to complete the subjects. For example, EW = every weekday, M = Monday, ED = everyday. I listed the chores he was to do, starting from the bottom of the page, working up. As he completed his school work and chores, he ticked the boxes.
After doing this for a couple of weeks, I realised that I could be more specific in what I wanted him to complete, so I started writing in the page numbers of the Paces each day. This worked out a lot better as he knew where he had to do up to. He would go and complete what he needed to on his own, crossing it off as he went!
Overall, we have found this Student Logbook to be a great organiser, easy and simple enough for our boy to use on his own. He is able to go for weeks on his own, until I feel like changing it up and adding or taking about some of the subjects.
I also like the way I can have everything for one child in one book. Their schoolwork and their chores! Our boy leaves it open on his desk and is able to check back and tick off when completed. It really does take a lot of work off me.
The only thing I will say is, we are Australian and we received the pdf format of the Student Logbook. All the pdf’s are dated, American style eg. 9/15/14. (You can purchase the printed copies undated). It took a little while and a bit of explaining as to why the dates were back to front, but once he got used to it, he was fine.
I am looking at purchasing the family pdf Logbook for 2015 as I think it will be great for both our boys as well as for me. My checklist can contain all the things I want/need to do each day like washing, meal planning, grocery shopping and appointments. I can tick each of my tasks off as I have completed them. I think this is an all round awesome daily planner that can be personalised to suit any family!
