Review: Great Parents Academy GPA LEARN

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my full disclosure policy.

For this review, both boys were given the opportunity to use GPALOVEMATH by GPA LEARN.  GPALOVEMATH is an online math program for children in grades K-5. There are fun characters, over 150 lessons and over 10,000 problems to help your child master math skills.

GPA LEARN

As part of this online program, there is a fun reward system, that is great for motivating your child with a large variety of rewards to choose.

You can see how this program matches up with your current curriculum by following the links on this page: GPALOVEMATH Curriculum. This is a great way to see what skills your child will be learning in each lesson.

How did we go?

I signed our boys up for grades 3 and 5 and then added some rewards for them before giving them their passwords.

When they log in, there are three paths: green, purple and blue. Our boys both chose to start on the green path. Our boys completed the topics in the recommended order, though you can also choose by topics.  Once they completed a lesson and passed, the next lesson would open. I really liked this as it made them learn the concepts in each lesson properly before they were able to move on.

Each lesson is broken up into three parts: Instruction, Practice and Quiz.  In the Instruction part, the child will be taught the new skills from their character. The robot characters talk while you can read along on the bottom of the screen. The child is shown how to complete he each using the understand, plan, solve and check method.  In the practice area, the children practice the skills they have been learning about. They do have three lifelines that can be used if they get stuck on a question. After watching the instruction and then practicing, they are ready to take the quiz. Once the 15 quiz questions are answered, the child then receives an award and shown how many of the questions they answered correctly.

If they get any answers incorrect, they are able to check their incorrect answer and the correct answer after the test has finished.

Gpa Maths 10

Once they have mastered this skill, they are able to move onto the next skill. Once they have completed the required number of lessons, they will get their reward. The amount of lessons required and the type of reward is up to the parent.

In grade 5, the characters take the child on missions that they need to help solve by completing certain math problems which is great for keeping the older children interested and wanting to learn.

In the parent account, you are able to see what lessons your children have completed, what they learnt in their lessons in the Learn area. The rewards for them are chosen in the Motivate area. In the engage area, you are able to add ‘friends’ and communicate with them. You are also able to unlock lessons for you child, if you wish.

Overall our boys really enjoyed this program. It was easy for them to log in and continue from where they were up to and they liked the way each math skill was explained to them. Both boys found the voices on the characters a little hard to understand at times, as they spoke a little quick and in a robotic type voice, but once they got used to this, they were fine.

The variety of math skills that were taught and they way the lessons were explained really helped the boys understand the way to solve the problems and to be confident that they could complete the quizzes with a great score.

As a parent, I received an instant email, that was an overview of what each child had completed and how they had gone with their lessons they had just completed. The other thing we liked was, the concepts that our boys already knew quite well, they were able to skip these lessons and go ahead to the practice and/or the quiz.
