When starting out with a bullet journal, there are a few supplies that you need. There are also a lot of amazing products that can help you create brilliant layouts as well. The basics are a journal, pens and a ruler, but I have added quite a few fun products here as well, though they are all optional.
Portfolio
A great way to keep everything together is with this gorgeous iPad Portfolio. I have the Pro 11- Pro 10.5 and B5 size notebook cover in Crazy Horse Brown, which I absolutely love. It is a great way to see everything in one place, especially when out and about.
Handmade from 100% vegetable tanned cow leather and hand stitched using waxed polyamide thread, this portfolio is a must for work at home mums and even high school students. It fits an iPad, iPhone, small notebook as well as a large B5 notebook or diary, a couple of bank cards, and some pens, pencils, a ruler and paper clips. What else could you ask for?
The quality is amazing, with that lovely leather smell. They have loads of other amazing products that you will love as well. Take a look, you won’t be disappointed. Though be warned, you may have trouble deciding which one to purchase as you’ll probably want them all!
Journal
A favourite journal of many people is the Leuchtturn 1917 dotted A5. I have a black one of these and absolutely love it!
Another Journal that makes a great bullet journal is the Moleskine Dot Grid Notebook.
The Dotted Journal by Scribbles that Matter is another great option for a bullet journal.
You could also use a Traveller’s Notebook. With this, you can purchase different inserts to go into your journal. You could have an insert for home, an insert for education and one for your blog. One thing to keep in mind with this is, that the more inserts you have, the heavier your journal will be.
Pens
You will also find pencils are great for designing your layout before creating your final copy with your pens. I have found the Ticoonderoga Pencils to be great for this use.
My favourite coloured pens are the Staedtler Triplus Fineliners which come in a variety of different sized packets.
These Paper Mate InkJoy Gel Retractable Pens come in so many colours and are so smooth to write with.
For those who love to get creative, these Dual Tip Markers are a must. They come in a variety of colours and are great for calligraphy style writing.
These Tombow Brush Pens are water resistant markers which are great for writing over watercolored decorations on your pages.
You can never have enough black pens!
These watercolour pens are amazing! A lovely way to add colour and improve your handwriting!
Out and About
A great way to keep all your supplies organised when you are out and about is with this amazing backpack purse.
Said to be crafted from quality buffalo leather, the brown backpack accessories are made of brass.
With so many pockets, there is a place for all your accessories so that you won’t lose anything. There is also a space that will hold up to a 16 inch MacBook, for those who need to work while out and about.
So far, I have loved using this backpack. It fits everything in it that I need when out and about. There are so many pockets, that I am easily able to organise everything I need.
Other Accessories
A ruler is a must! Drawing straight lines by hand is very hard and I was using one of the boys long plastic rulers until I purchased this.
Another great accessory is this Helix 360˚ tool. It is a great tool used for helping you add circles to your page layouts.
These clips are very handy. They are a great way to keep the pages of your bullet journal open while you are writing in them as well as to keep your place.
These stencils are really cool, and very helpful for those, like me, who have a hard time drawing accents but really want them.
These dividers are a great addition to any home organisation system.
Washi Tape is a great way to add colour, use to create borders and interest into your bullet journal layouts. (They can also be used to cover errors that you have made in your bullet journal – speaking from experience here.)
Of course, you will need a place to keep all of your supplies. This soft case is perfect.
