Days 98 and 99

Days 98 and 99

As the free camp in Dongara is a 24hr stop, we had to move on. Today was a really bad day for driving. The rain was quite heavy at times and the wind was really blowing. We started to head to a free camp on the coast, but quickly changed our minds due to the wind and the rain. Instead we headed for the Robert Hindmarsh Rest Area in Wannamal.

At times we were struggling to see in front of us.

On arriving at the rest area, the ground was quite wet, so we parked close to the bbq area and ran into the van, hoping that we wouldn’t sink into the ground overnight.

Surprisingly, the water ran off quite quickly and the sun came out in patches during the following day.

After reading the signs under the shelters, we found out that this area is named after the guy who has maintained it for the last 20+ years. I have to say it was really well looked after with clean flushing toilets, 3 fire rings with fire wood dropped off daily and a very clean bbq.

By the morning after our second night here, the ground was really quite dry.

There was a really nice walk that we would have liked to do, but with the weather and the muddy ground, we really didn’t think it was the right time to complete it. We spent the day doing schoolwork, trying not to use too much power, hoping the little bit of sun we were getting would be enough to keep the batteries topped up.
