Down the main street of Ilfracombe there is the ‘Great Machinery Mile’. This is a magnificent outdoor display of machinery, showcasing the evolution of the pastor development throughout the Queensland outback.
The local post office building in Ilfracombe, turned 100 years old in December 2009. In April 2010, it celebrated the centenary of the first motor mail delivery in the Commonwealth of Australia. This too place between Ilfracombe and Isisford.
This quaint little town in the middle of Barcaldine and Longreach, is a place too good too miss!

After spending morning tea at a gorgeous park across the road from the Great Machinery Mile, we headed to Longreach where we booked into the Longreach Tourist Park.
That afternoon, we had a look at the Qantas Founders Museum,
and The Stockmans Hall of Fame.
Day 11
After a quick visit to the Merino Bakery for an early morning tea, we headed to the Longreach Powerhouse Museum.
This museum was very interesting and the boys loved to see how electricity was generated in the past. There was also a house dressed as it would have been in the 1930’s and some old machinery, cars and trains.
With the drought out here in the West, the land is so brown and hard, but the sunsets can be amazing. Both afternoons we were at Longreach had amazing sunsets!
