Even though the hieroglyphics are Egyptian, the word hieroglyphics is actually Greek, with ‘Hiero’ meaning ‘holy’ and ‘glyphics’ meaning ‘marks or writings’. As hieroglyphics and our alphabet are two completely different languages, historians have come up with a simplified translation of our letters and the Egyptian hieroglyphs which is what these Hieroglyphics Flashcards are based on. Some of the pictures are easy to identify, though many can be confusing as many of the Egyptian symbols are read as completely different sounds.
