Place the dry flowers in a glass jar and cover it completely with olive oil.
Put the lid on the jar and store in a dark cupboard for two to four weeks, shaking every couple of days to keep everything submerged.
Strain the flowers with a strainer, cheesecloth or an unbleached coffee filter. The infused oil is now ready to make into a balm or salve.
If you want to speed up the infusion process, slowly heat the oil in a slow cooker on low heat for 24 – 48 hours.
Lavender Tallow Balm
Combine the beeswax, tallow and 3 teaspoons of the lavender infused oil in a microwaveable jug and heat for 30 seconds at a time in the microwave until the beeswax is completely melted. Stir in between each heat burst. This process could also be done in a double boiler.
Let cool for a couple of minutes then add the essential oil if using and mix through.
Pour the mixture into small glass jars or tins.
Let the balm cool and set.
Whipped Tallow Balm
To make a whipped Lavender Tallow Balm, place the jars in the fridge for about 45 minutes to 1 hour after pouring the mixture into them.
Once set, remove from the fridge and whip using a hand mixer for about 1 to 2 minutes. This mixture will become fluffy and white.
Store in a sealable glass jar.
