Place the sweet potato into a large pot and cover with water by about 2.5 cm or 1 inch.
Season with the tsp of salt (optional) and bring to the boil.
Reduce the heat and simmer until fork tender. This could take around 12 - 17 mins.
Remove the potatoes from the heat and drain.
The sweet potatoes can also be baked, cooked in the microwave or in the pressure cooker if you prefer.
Creamy Mixture
Add the butter, the milk (or cream), and cinnamon to the potatoes.
Mash with a potato masker until smooth. Add more cream or milk if needed for a smoother, fluffier mash. You can use a food processor and pulse until your desired consistency.
