Wanted Posters

For our bushranger unit, we decided to make Wanted Posters.

Wanted Posters

To make these Wanted Posters, you will need:

white A4 paper

tea bag

warm water

black marker

photo

candle/matches

Wanted Poster 1

To make these posters, the boys poured some warm water into a small bowl and then added a tea bag. They let the tea bag sit for a short time and then rubbed the tea bag over the A4 sheets of paper. I had the paper resting on a tea towel as they did it, so the liquid wouldn’t go all over the table. To make the ‘darker’ patches, they dipped the tea bag in the water and squeezed it onto the paper. These pages took over night to dry.

The next day, the boys wrote the information (wanted, reward etc.) onto the pieces of ‘old’ looking papers. Then we went outside to burn the edges. I used a candle and we had the hose sitting next to us, just in case, as it was quite a windy day and I didn’t want any fire to get out of hand.

Wanted Posters

Slowly place the edge of the paper near the flame of the candle. It will start to burn quickly, so watch it carefully.

Wanted Posters 3

As soon as the paper catches on fire, remove it from the flame and blow it out. I actually stood on it (with shoes on) on the concrete to make sure the fire was completely out.

Wanted Posters

You can burn the edges as much or as little as you like.

Then the boys printed off a picture of Ned Kelly that they found on the internet and a picture of themselves and glued them onto the Wanted Posters.

R’s Wanted Posters are above.

The boys really loved making these Wanted Posters and learnt a lot about fire safety at the same time.

I have also made some Wanted Posters that you can download for FREE! All you need to do is add a photo and the reward.

These are really cool! If either of my kids ever wants a cowboy party or to even just play old West, I am so going to do this!

What a cute idea! I bet you could even convert wanted posters into invitations — possibly for a cowboy themed party or something!

Love it! This would be a fun birthday party activity too, if you were doing a Wild West theme!
