Our boys have loved reviewing the Times Tales from The Trigger Memory Co. This program came as a downloadable product which contained 2 mp4’s – Part 1 and Part 2 as well as pdf printables and answer keys for both parts.
The Times Tales is an innovative DVD program which teaches children their upper times tables. Using animated characters and fun stories, children are taught the following math facts: 3×6, 3×7, 3×8, 3×9, 4×6, 4×7, 4×8, 4×9, 6×6, 6×7, 6×8, 6×9,7×7, 7×8, 7×9, 8×8, 8×9, and 9×9.
The short but entertaining stories are fun to watch, helping children learn the most difficult facts with ease. The characters are shaped like numbers which make them very easy to remember. This curriculum is aimed towards kids in grades 1 – 4.
How did we go?
It is recommended that this program be used over a couple of weeks. On the first day of the week, you watch the first video. While watching, it has places for you to pause and answer some questions as you go. After watching the video, you go on to complete the first pack of pdf files. These files included flashcards (both multiplication and division), a crossword, roll ’em cube game, a practice test and a test.
After watching the first video on Monday, our boys completed the crossword. We made up the cubes for the roll ’em cube game and used these daily to practice, as well as the flashcards.
There are four sets of flashcards. The first lot has the numbers dressed up as the characters in the video, the second lot are just the numbers, both of these are multiplication sums. The third and fourth sets are both division sets. The third set is where your child has to find what is missing and includes one number with the character dressed up. The fourth set of flashcards are straight division cards.
We reviewed the video again a couple of days later, on the Wednesday, before completing the practice test. The practice test uses the numbers dressed up as the characters in the story. We used the cubes and flashcards again on the Thursday before completing the test on the Friday. As our boys have memorised their times tables by this stage, we were ready to move on.
The next week we followed the same routine with the second video. Our youngest boy who has just started his times tables has progressed extremely well. He is now doing very well with his times tables.
Our boys have really enjoyed using this program. The videos were fun to watch and very engaging. They also loved the game cube which they still use on a weekly basis. The stories and characters were very easy to remember, and if they ever have trouble with a times tables, they think back to this program and the appropriate story for the sum and are able to find the answer immediately.
I love how easy this program was to use and how flexible it is. You can watch the videos as many times as your child needs, stopping to practice when needed.
I will say, the package is quite big, so you will need a good internet connection to download the files. Mp4 files are always quite big and will take some time to download.
This entire program is available for download at just $19.95 and you will receive your digital files within the next 24 hours.
