A fun and easy way to teach children counting and numbers is with these fun Spring Lamb Ten Frame Math Cards. They would be great for helping children better understand the concepts of numbers and counting from 1 – 10.
Have you heard of the math skill known as subitizing? With this skill, children have the ability to look at objects, in this case the ten frame math cards, and instantly ‘seeing’ and knowing that there are five lambs without having to count each lamb. These Spring Lamb Ten Frame Math Cards are a wonderful way to help children understand numbers and groups of numbers.
To make these Spring Lamb cards, just print out the version that you want – black and white or coloured on white paper or cardstock, then cut out each card, along the dotted line. I recommend laminating for durability, but that it optional.
Check out the list of materials that we use with these printables.
Children can practice counting by placing counters or balls of playdough onto the sheep then tracing over the numbers and words. Once they know all their numbers from 1 – 10, they can then practice subitizing. Point out different ways to help them such as; looking at the top line. If the line has two empty spots, then we know the number of lambs is three. If the first row is completely full, then the number of lambs is five. Once they have worked on learning the top row, then move onto the bottom row.
