This week we took a look at South Africa. Hubby was born in South Africa, so it only seemed natural that we should take a look at this country.
We completed a South African lap book Friday morning which I put together using printables from a variety of places, and then had a South African meal Friday night. We looked at the ‘Big 5‘ animals, the flag, the anthem and where South Africa is situated in Africa. It was a lot of work, but we have really enjoyed it and learnt a lot. All the links to the material I used are below.
For the meal, we purchased lemon jelly (which they loved), butterscotch pudding (which the boys didn’t like), biltong (which they love) and a few other things from the South African shop close by. We made a lemon meringue pie, milk tart and crunches (sort of like Anzac biscuits but in a slice) from scratch. It turned out to be a wonderful night with the boys giving most things a go.
Above is another picture of the lemon meringue pie and the crunchies.
In this picture the biltong is on the plate on the left, and on the right plate are the koeksisters, crunchies and condensed milk rusks.
We really enjoyed our time learning about South Africa. The links to the material used are below.
