Our boys love treasure hunts, so when we were asked to review the 5 Multiplication Treasure Hunts and the Happy Tummy Treasure Hunt from Clued in Kids, our boys were ecstatic.
Clued In Kids treasure hunts contain a number of clues with activities or puzzles that need to be solved. When they are solved, the location of the next clue is revealed. This is repeated until the treasure is found. There are many different treasure hunts, most are printable, but there are a couple of physical sets that can be purchased and would be great for parties or gifts.
The Happy Tummy hunt that we were given, is a printable hunt that gives lessons on nutrition and diet while the five Multiplication treasure hunts, designed for 7 to 9 year olds, includes multiplication based quizzes. It is also a printable treasure hunt. There are many other fun hunts to choose from on their website as well.
The printable treasure hunts are easy to set up, and they come with an ‘answer’ sheet that tells you where to hid each clue, so you will never forget where you put the clues. This also makes setting up so quick and easy.
How did we go?
Our boys love treasure hunts and these ones were no exception. The first thing we did was make a treasure box by painting a small box that we had, so it looked like a real treasure chest. Then we went looking for ‘treasure’ to put in our box.
As they were learning about nutrition as part of the first treasure hunt, the Happy Tummy Treasure Hunt, I decided that we needed something healthy as the treasure, like a bowl of strawberries.
For the Multiplication Treasure hunts, I used a variety of small toys, like small lego packets and matchbox cars.
Then I printed out the Treasure hunt clues. I found this was really easy to prepare, just print and cut in half. I loved how each hunt listed where to place each clue. I did have to change some of the hiding places, as they were just too hard for us. For example, our letterbox is in the front of the complex about 250 metres away, 500 metres return.
As we had six treasure hunts to complete, our boys took turns in being in ‘charge.’ The person in charge would get the treasure. There is space on the clues where you can write a name in, so everyone gets a turn, but with only two boys, they decided to just take turns.
The boys went outside while I hid the clues and then I would give the boy in charge the first clue and they were off. They would read the clue, answer the quizzes at the dining room table to find out where the next clue was and then off they went again looking for the next clue. They really enjoyed deciphering the clues and were great at taking turns.
Overall, we have found these to be fun and exciting treasure hunts that kept our boys occupied for ages. They just keep wanting to do them over and over again. I loved how excited they were and how they were learning at the same time. The great thing I have found with the printable ones, is that we can print them out again and do them again with friends.
