Peter and the Coin Story

The story about Peter and the Coin in the Fish’s mouth can be found in Matthew 17:24-27. This story begins with Jesus and His disciples arriving at a Capernaum.

A tax collector approaches Peter and asks him if Jesus pays the temple tax. Peter went and spoke to Jesus as he didn’t have any money to pay the tax collector.

In Jesus’ time, the king’s sons did not have to pay the taxes. Jesus didn’t really need to pay the temple tax, as it belonged to His Father.

But, Jesus didn’t come to make people mad, He came here to give everyone the opportunity to learn more about Him and to go to heaven.

Before following Jesus, Peter was a fisherman. Jesus asked Peter to go fishing, and the first fish that he caught would have a coin in its mouth.

Peter was to use this coin to pay the taxes.
