This delicious One Bowl Chocolate Cake is the perfect cake to whip up for a last minute dessert or when you are craving a moist chocolate cake. It is easy to make in one bowl, which makes cleaning up quick and easy as well.

One Bowl Chocolate Cake

This simple, easy to make from scratch chocolate cake recipe is so easy that you won’t need a box cake mixture any more! The best thing is you can decorate it as you like.

Dress it up with decorations for the perfect birthday cake or serve it as a simple chocolate cake sprinkled with icing mixture for afternoon. 

How to Make this Chocolate Cake

To make this cake you will need:

  • SR Flour
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Caster Sugar
  • Butter
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Vanilla extract
  • Icing mixture

To Make the Cake

Preheat oven to 180˚C.

Line a 20cm round cake pan with baking paper and set aside.

In a large bowl, beat the butter and the caster sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the eggs and vanilla and mix well.

Add the milk and mix until combined.

Slowly add the sifted cocoa powder and SR flour and mix until combined.

Pour the cake batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean.

To Make the Icing

Beat the butter and milk together.

Add the cocoa powder and the icing mixture and beat until well combined.

Spread over cold cake and refrigerate for 1 hour until the icing has set.

Decorate with chocolate curls, edible flowers or fruit.

Store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Ingredients
  

Chocolate Cake

  • 1 cup SR Flour, sifted
  • 2 TBSP cocoa powder, sifted
  • 3/4 cup caster sugar
  • 3 TBSP butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Chocolate Icing

  • 1 cup icing mixture
  • 2 TBSP cocoa powder
  • 2 TBSP milk
  • 1 TBSP butter

Instructions

  • Add the eggs and vanilla and mix well.
  • Add the milk and mix until combined.
  • Slowly add the sifted cocoa powder and SR flour and mix until combined.
  • Pour the cake batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan on a wire rack while you make the icing.

Chocolate Icing

  • To make the icing, beat the butter and milk together.
  • Add the cocoa powder and the icing mixture and beat until well combined.
  • Spread over cold cake and refrigerate for 1 hour until the icing has set.
  • Decorate with chocolate curls, edible flowers or fruit.
