In my process to delete the house of toxins, I decided that I would try to find a more natural face moisturiser. This Daily Face Moisturiser works out considerably cheaper that the commercial store-bought ones and is a lot better for your skin.
DIY Daily Face Moisturiser
At first it felt a little weird putting oil onto my already oily face, but after a few weeks, my skin started feeling really soft and I was really starting to feel good about it. I do recommend that you try a small bit of this moisturiser on the back of your hand first, to make sure you do not have any allergies to any of the ingredients. If you do, do not use this recipe.
In the following recipe, the oil acts a a moisturiser, a multivitamin, and an antioxidant. The vitamin E oil helps prevent premature aging and promotes healing. Frankincense EO, helps promote healthy cell regeneration while the Lavender EO acts as an anti-inflammatory, an antiseptic and also has antibacterial properties.
To create a night time cream use the same recipe, just add 10 drops of Lemon essential oil, which aids in rejuvenating sagging or tired-looking skin as will as clearing of the skin and boosting circulation. Lemon essential oil is photosensitive, that is why I would only use it in a night cream.
Essential Oils
Essential oils are potent. They need to be diluted before using them, especially when using on your face. Some essential oils that could be used are:
- Frankincense EO – helps promote healthy cell regeneration making it great for those with skin imperfections, wrinkles, and fine lines
- Lavender EO – great for dry, ageing and acne-prone skin as it is an anti-inflammatory, an antiseptic and has antibacterial properties
- Tea Tree – great for normal, oily or acne-prone skin
- Rose – great for sensitive skin, fine lines, wrinkles and crows feet
- Lemon – aids in rejuvenating sagging or tired-looking skin – it is a photosensitive oil, so I would only use it in a night cream
- Myrrh – great for dry skin
- Helichrysum – great for skin imperfections, as well as dry and ageing skin
DIY All Natural Daily Face Moisturiser - Day Cream
Simple Living. Creative LearningIngredients
- 1/2 cup (115 g) oil sweet almond, grapeseed or rosehip oil
- 1/2 cup cocoa or shea butter
- 1 tsp Vitamin E oil
- 7 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
- 5 drops Lavender Essential Oil
Instructions
- Using a double boiler, melt cocoa / shea butter and sweet almond oil together until liquid.
- Remove from heat and let cool for about 30 minutes.
- Add in the Frankincense and Lavender essential oils.
- Add the vitamin E oil, if using.
- Wait for mix to partially solidify. If you live in a high humidity place like I do, you may want to put it in the fridge. I put mine in the fridge for about 10 minutes.
- Then, whip with your hand mixer for a few minutes until it has a butter-like consistency.
- Store in a wide-lid glass jar. This should keep for 6 - 12 months.
- Due to the high humidity in some areas causing the coconut oil to melt, you may need to keep it in a dark, cool place or the fridge.
Notes
- Instead of the vitamin E oil, you could use almond oil as it is also very beneficial to the skin. It helps soothes irritated skin, lightens dark circles and help in the delaying of the ageing process.
- You could also add a few drops of Maleluca (Tea Tree) Essential Oil too as it helps with acne.

Great recipe!! I just tried it, although I used hemp seed oil instead of coconut oil and it seems to work great! I love the smell of the frankincense and lavender mix.
I do have a question about the whipping part at the end… I don’t know if I over-whipped or what but I ended up with a pretty hard, almost cold butter like moisturizer. So it’s not soft when I put my hands into the glass jar every day. Doesn’t bother me, just wondering if you had any tips to make it more soft?
I haven’t tried hemp seed oil, sounds interesting. Try adding a little more of the oil, until you get a softer consistency. I live in a humid area, so need it to be harder so that it doesn’t melt too much.
Hi, love this recipe. I stored mine in a tin jar. It’s just started smelling abit off after approx 4 weeks. Is this due to the tin jar do u think? Or warmth? As I have half of it stored in another tin jar in the fridge that I just checked and smells fine still. Any advice what’s made it go off?
If it has to be stored in a glass jar, what type of lid should it be?
Many thanks, Zoe
Warmth, and humidity, does have an affect on this moisturiser. I live in a hot climate and have to store it in the fridge. I store it in a glass jar with a screw top lid.
Also, did you check the use by dates of the ingredients that you used as this can affect the moisturiser as well.
