Make your own Dishwashing Detergent

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my full disclosure policy.
I also make my own dishwasher detergent. I don’t use this all the time, I use it more often than not and use tablets that I get on sale other times. I also use white vinegar as a rinse aid.I do buy the dishwasher cleaners and try to do that every other month as well, just to keep the dishwasher clean and in good working order. Before I use the cleaners I clean out the filters as well.

1 Tablespoon of Bicarb Soda
1 Tablespoon of Borax

Mix well.

I make quite a bit of this at a time and store in an airtight container and use when needed.

Another recipe is:

1 cup Bicarb Soda
1 cup Washing Soda
1/4 cup salt
1/4 cup citric acid
Few drops of tea tree oil

Shake together and store in an airtight container. Use 2 tablespoons per load.
I have not used this one, so I don’t know how well it works.

Another recipe is:

1/2 cup borax
1/2 cup washing soda
Juice of 1 lemon

Mix together. Use 2 Tablespoons of the mixture. (I got this recipe from Here.)

Yet another recipe can be found here.

I also turn off the dishwasher during the drying cycle after all the water has exited the machine and open the door and let them air dry. This helps save on power costs.
