Have you heard of the KiwiCo Crates? These monthly subscription based boxes are high quality and contains the materials needed to complete the project.
Upon receiving the box, there is minimal preparation needed to create the projects. With the boxes containing all of the supplies, including all the screws, screwdriver and glue dots, all we needed extra was a pair to scissors. Included in the boxes is a very easy to follow instruction book. This book contains step by step instructions as well as pictures to show you how to complete each step.
So far, we have tried four different boxes. They are: The Atlas, Doodle, Tinker and Eureka Crates.
The first crate we received was the Tinker Crate (aimed at children ages 9 – 16). The project for the one we received was a Spin Art Machine. In the box was everything we needed to build the Spin Art Machine as well as a few sheets of paper and a pen set to use with the completed machine.
Our boy who has had some interest in art over the years, thought this was great. He made quite a few nice artworks with the completed machine, changing the speed of the spinning as he went.
The second box we received was a Eureka Crate (Ages 10 – 104). This crate was slightly harder to put together than the previous crate, but in the end, we now have a wooden ukulele that we can play. For this, we received everything, including the screws and a screwdriver to put them in with. Our oldest boy really enjoyed putting this together and then playing his finished project.
The third box was a Doodle Crate which consisted of a Faux Leather Portfolio. This was a wonderful crate that we loved.
Again, it included clear instructions with pictures to follow which made it easy to create the portfolio. It even allowed room for our kids to get creative by decorating the front of the portfolio how they wanted. It came with plenty of brads in the four different colours, so they could decorate how they wished.
The final box we have received so far was the Doodle Crate. This crate is aimed at children ages 6-11. Our kids are all older than this, so they found it a little easy to create the activities inside, but they still enjoyed it. For this one, there were two activities, creating a Globe and an Adventure Book.
Overall, we have thoroughly enjoyed these hands-on learning crates. Our kids have been excited to learn with each new box.
