Jacob and Esau Story

The story about Jacob and Esau can be found in Genesis 25:20 – 27:46. This story begins with the birth of the twins, Jacob and Esau, and how Esau sells his birthright and then Jacob takes Esau’s blessing.

During the time in which these brothers lived, it was believed that the oldest child should receive extra of the things, such as money and animals, that would be left behind after the parents passed away. This was known as the birthright. When Jacob asked for Esau’s birthright, Esau should not have consented. All he was thinking about was how hungry he was.

Than, when their father Isaac was getting old, he began to lose his eyesight. Issac wanted to give Esau his blessing before he died. As Isaac loved the food that Esau caught and prepared, he asked him to go and prepare a meal for him. Rebekah overhead this conversation, and helped Jacob receive this blessing instead of Esau. After Jacob had tricked Isaac into giving him the blessing, he ran away. He ended up having to work seven years for his bride, then was tricked with marrying the wrong woman when the time had come.

During this whole story, both brothers did things that they shouldn’t have done. They made bad choices that they couldn’t change. We need to be careful about the choices that we make as you never know how they are going to affect you later on in your life.
